FAQ
Will it work with my exact CNC?
Yes, if your controller can output a standard laser control signal (typically 5V PWM/TTL or a spindle-PWM/relay output), you’re good. We provide machine-specific brackets/wiring for popular models and a universal option for others.
Which machines are explicitly supported?
We cover crowd-favorites like AltMill, Shapeoko, X-Carve, Onefinity, LongMill, OpenBuilds LEAD, WorkBee, Shark, Avid, Stepcraft, Genmitsu, FoxAlien, and more—plus a universal kit.
What software do I use?
We recommend using LightBurn for laser jobs but Vectric’s Laser Module also works if you already have VCarve/Aspire. LaserGRBL is a free option for GRBL boards. We ship ready-to-import device profiles.
Do I need a separate power supply?
Laser diodes are powered separately from your CNC’s motion electronics. Our kit includes the laser PSU and safe, labeled connections so your controller only sends the control signal.
Is installation reversible?
Yep. The mount and harness are non-destructive. You can swap between router and laser in minutes while keeping your CNC’s normal workflows.
How powerful should I go? 10W vs 20W vs 40W
10W Laser Ryder: Sharp engraving, light cutting (thin woods, paper, cardstock, some leathers).
20W Laser Ryder: Versatile “do-most” setup; cuts common craft woods/acrylic in multiple passes with air-assist.
40W Laser Ryder: Faster cutting and thicker stock; best when you want production speed.
Real-woreld performance depends on wood species, color, air-assist, focus, and kerf settings—always test on your material.
Do I need air-assist?
Highly recommended for cleaner edges, less char, and deeper cuts. The Laser Ryder Module has an air assist intake directly on the nozzle, Our ARC Air assist pumps will work with this system
What about fumes and ventilation?
Vent smoke outdoors via hose or use a filtered enclosure and vent outside. Never operate without adequate ventilation.
How do I wire it to my controller?
Typically: PSU → laser head; controller’s laser/spindle-PWM → laser signal input.
We provide machine-specific pinouts for popular Hobby CNC boards.
If you need additional help, we will gladly hope on the phone and help you get set up.
Lead time & support?
Our goal is to begin shipping orders in October, with maker-grade documentation and North American human support. If your CNC isn’t listed, we’ll help you spec the right universal mount and wiring.
